Euro-Mediterranean Campus for the Environment and Sustainable Development
2008

The Grouping of European Campuses (GEC) gives students and young people the opportunity to take part in the Euro-Mediterranean campus program for the Environment and Sustainable Development.

There are five campuses on offer this summer in France, Morocco and Tunisia all about raising awareness and risk prevention of natural hazards and the development of eco-tourism :

> Prevention of landslides in the town of Tetouan and its surroundings, Morocco - Tetouan (July);

> Ecotourism at Zaouiat Ahansal, Morocco ­ High Atlas (July);

> Development of cultural tourism in the Medina of Tunis, Tunisia (August);

> Raising awareness to flood risks and solidarity in the lower Durance Valley, France ­ Bouches-du-Rhône and Vaucluse (September);

> Study for an educational discovery trail about the 1909 earthquake at Lambesc and surrounding area, France ­ Bouches-du-Rhône (September);

The campuses, as academic field workshops, aim at establishing international exchanges in collaboration with European and Mediterranean towns and regions. They seek to mobilize multidisciplinary teams of young people coming from different countries for a time period of three weeks to participate in local sustainable development field projects.

The campus programmes are open to young people over 18 years of age. They require a skill, a personal interest or a qualification linked to the theme of the programme like: Architecture, art history, local development, tourism and ecotourism, geography, communication, landscaping, photography, social sciences, hydraulics, natural hazard prevention Etc.

The French Ministry of Ecology and Sustainable Development, the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the regional authorities of Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur and other local authorities in France and in campus hosting countries support the campus sessions.
