This Bastide,
or customs barracks, was built in the 18th century and
used to lodge the customs enforcement garrisons of the
coastline before becoming a communal eating house when
the railway was built nearby. In order to avoid this
abandoned building falling into complete ruin, the town
of St-Cyr decided in 2001 to collaborate with a coastline
conservation agency to restore the Bastide des Douanes
and its surroundings. This year, you will continue
consolidating the stone-work and masonry of the walls,
doorways and window openings.

sanitary facilities in a permanent building
